to think about art as a whole during that timeframe. Personally, I believe that the
Renaissance was the peak of art in terms of popularity and importance. When comparing
that to art in today’s society, it’s the complete opposite. It is so interesting to see how much
has changed in the art world as time passed by.
From the readings, it seems as though back during the Renaissance, art was not only
flourishing, but also welcomed, appreciated and valued. It seems like there was no
question that art was important. By saying art, I mean the “play” aspect of it. Without
“play,” how can an individual be allowed to express creativity? Pablo Picasso once said
“All children are artists, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” I heavily
believe in this quote because of how true it is to me. When we were all children, we had an
unlimited amount of free time. With this free time we would play for hours and hours
possibly creating art masterpieces in the process. As we grow up, we start to gain
responsibilities which then occupy the free time that we once had. Without this free time
anymore, we cannot play as much as we used to. Aside from that, we have parents and
other older figures that tell us things like “stop playing around” and “if you’re not sweating,
then you’re not working.” With all of this mixed together, it is very hard to stay in touch with
our childish and playful side that we all still have, but have lost a portion of along the way.
Initials
Nowadays, schools and jobs tend to lean towards what is know as STEM, or science,
technology, engineering and math. As someone who loves all forms of art, this is very
disappointing to know. People just don’t seem to think that art is important for some
reason. I am convinced that it is just due to the time that we live in, and eventually the arts
will nudge its way back into society’s hearts and minds.
